Comm WS March 15 Report

Here is a brief report of the recently concluded Communication workshop, beginning with day 3.
Day 3
We began about 9.45 am in the OPD. Everyone put down some basic thoughts about a chosen topic- and made a formal presentation, referring to the hand notes. In this formal presentation, participants tried to implement all the communication tools they had learned earlier- sometime with help from audience and facilitators.
Next round was about sharing an embarrassing moment from childhood- and having a GOOD LAUGH about it! Everyone did extremely well. The idea was to start looking at our lives and its content, through new eyes, objectivity and some humor.
Next activity was: everyone had to deeply think and share two things they would like to do after the workshop- related to communication or NOT. This helped the participants to review, what they had learnt and what exactly was their needs; This also helped them to think in concrete terms about the two possible changes or interventions they needed to introduce in their lives.
Next, we divided in two groups and prepared for two role plays. One was a group discussion on "Arranged marriage Vs Love marriage"- very popular topic with young participants! Second was "Roll Call in a class room". Lot of imagination and creativity emerged in these role plays. Everyone had lot of fun, chance to speak ex-tempore and generally have fun. Then, we thanked everyone, especially seniors like Sanjib and Shiv- and the organiser of this Comm WS - Hemant. Our sincere thanks to Sr Helen and Anugrah too.
After lunch, we dispersed. The group has decided to remain in touch by - having a Facebook page and a whatsapp group. They intend to practice new skills on phone/ skype with each other. Participants from different region will try to hold some event in their area, to carry on this process of change. Dehradun group will start a SHG group soon, God willing. If Speech is a river, Life too is a river- and can not be bound up in just three days! It will keep flowing, no matter what.

Finally after a lot of struggle with my speech and confidence I GOT the JOB :)

I wanna to tell about my experience and Hopefully it will help u also..!!!
-Earlier whenever i go for an interview i always thinks about that what will happen...shall i tell him about stammering or not..what should i do when i stammer...which techniques should i use ??..etc etc
So, becoz of all this crap i was in pressure and when real interview begins i started stammering badly..!!!

Now, How I have changed all these..!!
As the above problem is persistent with me in few Interview but after than that i took help from my frnds....as they know i'm stammerer...so, i started giving Mock Interviews..!!!
Mock Interviews really helped me a lot , they give me the real experience of interview..!!!
Certainly i started improving on my speech..!!

Note: I started using some techniques like-slow speech, Pausing while giving interviews....so, i got acquinted with these techniques...!!!

So, In my final interview i used the same techniques...took pauses in between and I was very calm..Didn't think about my stammering & gave the Interview..!!! It went very well...I explained all my internships, projects etc...HR person really got impressed :)
Finally result was announce and In final process of 10 students interview only 4 got job and i was among them...!!! :D
It was the best moment in my life.....Special thankss to Sachin Sir :) 

Self Help Group Meet Chandigarh

Self Help Group Meeting was planned for Sunday at 11.00 Oclock at Sector 42 lake, Chandigarh. Jasmeet and Paramjit alongwith me participated in the meeting. We had a round of self introductions . For the day we decided to work on three  parameters i.e. Breath, Speed and Excitement. We practiced the parameters with strangers in the park.  Jasmeet also did some shouting and slow reading practice. Paramjeet shared  that we need to wipe the sad thoughts/ feelings connected with our stammering from our mind which we tend to carry and should continuously wok for improvement of communication by participating in SHG Meets etc.  He further narrated how the co- pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 locked the captain out of  the cockpit and then crashed the plane.

‘’ For God’s sake , open the door”. Captain Patrick Sondenheimer screamed as he banged on the cockpit door, pleading with the co-pilot.

------- As per sound recorded in the black boxes.

13 minutes later, the plane slammed into the French Alps.

Paramjeet  added that the co-pilot had obsession for something in his mind which he was carrying. By seeing a person we cannot judge what is happening in others mind but we can certainly work with our own mind and should keep it clean and pure.

      Paramjeet please correct if I wrote something incorrect  which you did not mean.

We pray  to God for the peace of departed souls and give strength to family members to bear the irreparable loss.

May all Beings be Happy.

The meeting ended with a resolution to meet again shortly.

Auto biography of an excellent communicator

About my stammering experience.

Good evening my dear tisa family members. Myself shivaji .I live in Hyderabad. I am writing here about my stammering experience since childhood .I was born in a town in telangana state.Now I am 31 yrs old. I was born and brought up in a good family. My father use to tell that he had little bit of stammering , when he was child, but he has get rid of it by growing age. He was a fluent speaker. In my family ,I have 2 elder brothers. My brothers have the stammering problem. My elder brother stammering is somewhat more than my younger brother. My younger brother use to stammer more when he was child. He use to face the people without shame, fear and shyness, but I use to hide my stammering.when he became elder his 90% of stammering was recovered.He use to talk more without shyness. I think stammering is overcomed by facing the people or talking more without any fear,but my elder brother stammering is still present , and he stammers more than me.But he is a very confident person from childhood.My family was rich when he was child and my father use to bring what ever he ask and he was the dominant in our family.

29-03-2015 PATNA BIHAR SHG REPORT

                                                                                                                                                            We were right on the time at around 3' O Clock. Our meeting was begin on a very hot and warm sunny climate.

 We were two members –

1. Suraj
2. Mohit

At first its seem bad time for the meeting but with a passion in our heart and faith in our mind, we initiated our meeting.

Before going for a meeting, we visited two different but very renowned temple of danapur cantt.

1.Kali mandir (estd. 1224), 791 years old,

2.Navlakha temple(Ram mandir).

Today the meeting was certainly not more than the physical training. We had a long walking meeting, stalked around 2 km round the ground and sone river. It was a thrilling and a tiredful meeting but we both enjoyed it lot.

When I failed to walk more, suraj said me to rebuilt your stamina. It seems impossible but it helped me for walking more. The moment we realise,we are out of our energy, it is a perfect time to rebuilt it. It give us an extra potential for moving forward.

- we talked too much (shared some amusing and experienced moments)

- Did breathing exercise.

- We talked with our techniques.

Finally we dispersed after taking some pictures infront of st. luke’s church.

First psychology, then physiology...

I am Shiv, 43 year old, working in NHPC (a central Govt. PSU) as a Deputy Manager (Civil). I did B.E (Civil) and M.Tech (Civil) from reputed MNR Engineering College Allahabad (now known as MNIT).

As far as, I had remembered, my stammering started at the age of 10-11 year old. However, in childhood at the age of 7 years, I had suffered from severe jaundice and my mother told me that my stammering was caused due to jaundice. I had passed 12^th standard at the age of 17^th year. After that I did B.Sc and after that I got admission in B.E at the age of 22year. At the time of admission in B.E, my stammering was in peak and was pretending not to get admission there. That time, I was such a stammerer that I could not utter two words properly. However, I took admission in Engineering college and faced so many problem as described by other PWS as such as in attendance, introduction, hide stammering, quite in lecturer etc. 

In 1995, I had taken speech therapy from Amer (jaipur). During the therapy and post therapy, I got confidence to speak without stammering in a slow pace. But after some time i,e. 3-4 years, it return back to its original position. Again in 2003 I had taken speech therapy from the same therapy centre and this time I had decided to complete eradicate the stammering. In therapy centre, a slow speech has been taught to speak throughout the day without stammering. So I decided to speak for a long time in such a way and for about 7-8 months I had spoke in that manner and got recovered entirely. But during that time I could not speak difficult world and also had a psychology of stammering in mind. However, during 2003-2010, I had visited many times to speech center Amer (Jaipur) for 2-4 days. But now these days, I have also stammering.

The most problem related to speech with me is that my speed is very fast which caused stammering. I still have stammering psychology. The words in which I struck are प & म. However, in 2003 during the rigorous practice, I had able to speak these words correctly without stammering. 

Ed: Thank you, Shiv. You are right: without changing stammering mindset, no technique is going to help us in the long run.Most of us keep on hiding or denying the problem. But when we talk or write about it openly, as you have done here, we have taken the first BIG step towards changing our psychology for EVER. Congrats! We look forward to meeting you!

एक बेहतर विकल्प है स्वीकार्यता!

मैं अभी सतना में सर्वशिक्षा अभियान के तहत एमआरसी समन्वयक के पद पर कार्य कर रहा हूं। पिछले महीने फरवरी में मुझे 2 पैरेन्टस  ट्रेनिंग  प्रोग्राम आयोजित करने की जिम्मेदारी सौंपी गई। यह ट्रेनिंग  विशेष आवश्यकता वाले बच्चों (Children with special needs) के अभिभावकों के लिए थी। 

मैंने सभी तैयारियां समय पर पूरी कर लिया। पहली ट्रेनिंग  26 फरवरी 2010 को रखी गई। यह दिन मेरे लिए परीक्षा की घड़ी थी। हुआ कुछ यूं कि इस प्रोग्राम में मैं अकेले ही बोलने वाला था। मेरे साथ में एक महिला सहकर्मी हैं, लेकिन वे कुछ भी बोलने की हिम्मत नहीं जुटा पा रही थीं। इसलिए मैंने बड़ी हिम्मत करके बोलने का फैसला किया।

22-03-2015 PATNA BIHAR SHG DETAILS

Hello friends,

Like in every meeting we changes our schedule. Today's meeting was also at different place, it was budha smriti park(patna,bihar).

We were two members-

- Mohit

1. We started our meeting with a formal talk by roaming at Park.

2. Did reading with our techniques.

3. We phoned to Rakesh of faizabad just for some amusement.

4. We shared our personal experience regarding our life and stuttering.

It was a great meeting ended with a sweet cone of ice-cream.

Lastly we request to all Stammer friends who live in patna to come and meet once, I am sure you won't be regretting this meeting.

Overcoming stuttering is not easy, it needs great amount of persistence and courage.  Just come out of your comfort zone and explore yourself and such meeting will definitely going to help you.

LIVE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN

Ever felt the soft breeze blow against your face? Ever heard a bird in the early hours of morning? Ever felt the sound of the rain drops in your garden? If no, then you probably have not experienced the wonder of nature. If yes, then you should know the beautiful ways of communication of nature.

Communication is the feel I try to focus on here. How nice does it feel when there are no barriers of communication? When an orator speaks in front of a thousand people and they just get hypnotized. An actor performs his role on the stage flawlessly and the audience gets a glimpse of the entity emerging there. Or when there is a group of friends trolling down the lane, a sense of unity and compassion can be seen.

Yes, it feels very nice indeed and the truth is that I miss it. I miss it now and I missed it in the past in my school, my college, everywhere. Unfortunately, those days will not be lived again and a major phase of life is over.

But, I definitely have the hope for the future. Here, I remember the lines of Swami Vivekananda, “Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached!” I feel great to get associated with TISA and I’m already feeling the vibes of positivity around.

Here, I try to discuss my life, up and downs of my life. I will be dividing this into three portions- My School Days, My College Days and My Transformation Days.

My School Days

According to myself, I was the shyest person I could ever imagine. And this shyness was not because of my nature but because of my helplessness. The big question, “What if?” was always there and still it haunts me sometimes. There were days when I would go to school, attend my classes, come back home- and not a single word uttered. Whether it was classes, laboratories, outings, reading paragraphs from the books or talking to your class mates- it seemed to be mammoth task for me. And this fear grew into a big monster as the days passed by.

I remember when I was called for the viva and asked the first question, I could not utter the first line of my answer and my viva was over. I was misunderstood for being an introvert and who does not socialize. But the irony is that I was not able to tell them that it was not so :-D.

But I’m lucky in the sense that all the people I met in my school life and who are still with me are very supportive. Be it teachers, my friends, my class mates, my tuition mates, everyone. By the end of my school, I just had a desire in my life- I wish I could live it again!

My College Days

College Days means that now it is time for your youth, it is the time of all fun you can ever think of. College is the most happening experience for you- fun, booze, love, affairs, trips, bunks, and the list goes on. I took admission in engineering although I wished to enroll in Delhi University. It’s alright; you just cannot change your fate.

I remember when I took admission in college, there were supposed to be introductory Personality Enhancement Program. And this was the first thing in my life which gave a boost to my confidence. I felt lively, happy and participated in all the activities provided. But once it was over, I slowly crawled back into my den. My stammer came again to haunt me all through the years.

Everyone around me was having the time of their life by making new friends, girlfriends, boyfriends and I was just a recluse in my own world. I didn’t talk to anyone feeling ashamed even before I make a move. Then finally, came the final year of my engineering which has an alternative name- placement year.

Unfortunately, I was not able to appear for my interview because of my low grades as I was pathetic in engineering. But, what if I were able to appear for the interviews and group discussions? These questions still haunts because I need to appear for those in the near future. Again I had a moment of perception that- I wish I could live it again!

My Transformation Days

Now what exactly am I supposed to mention here? Let me summarize it here by saying that I am striving hard to do away with all the imperfections I have. Firstly, after six months I see myself as a fit man who indulges in different activities like cycling, gym, swimming and jogging. Then I wish to learn meditation for I am in a desperate need of focus in my life. Thirdly, I need to study hard so that I can crack my Civil Services. Then, I am a blogger who likes to write on health and fitness on my blog www.mylifemystyles.com and I would like to pursue onto a whole another level.

Last but not the least, I want to speak now. I want to communicate with people. I want to share my feelings with this world. I want to motivate people and embrace them on a journey of transformation.

Now we have our whole life ahead and I wish to live it as much as I can. I wish to travel, meet new people, learn new traditions, learn harmonica and flute, try out different cuisines, learn meditation, roam the Himalayas on my bicycle. I had lived in misery for my whole life and now my speech cannot stop me. I will strive hard and change the course of my life as I can see the silver lining in the far horizon!

And finally one day I will say- I wish I live it again and again and again!

I'll play it my way!

Myself Santanu, a pws from south 24 Pargana, West Bengal, 100 kms south to Kolkata, studying in MA and preparing for competitive exam. I stuttered since my childhood. I was a good student in school in lower classes. In my class I was the only student who had the problem in speaking. So I started to become aware of my problem. One day I was unable to respond properly to roll call. I had to say 'yes sir' but I could only manage to say 'yeeeee..'  

A wave of smiles rose in the class. I felt so ashamed. My classmates kept asking me what was the problem but I remained quiet , as i did not want to tell the truth. After returning home I asked my father with anger why I had speaking problem. He replied that it would be gone one day and advised me to concentrate on study. But my concentration shifted to my stuttering from that day.  

School seemed a jail to me ....always waiting for release. The problem ..to respond to roll call became everyday issue. I began preparing myself for roll call as the teacher entered the class room...yet I failed to respond. So
 I began to bunk school regularly. I liked to spend lot of time in the play ground since there I had very little occasion to spoke.
 

In college time the problem became worst. One day in a class the teacher, was taking the attendance;  I respond slightly late due to my problem and he had to do correction in the attendance register; next day unfortunately it happened again. So he warned me not to do this again. He thought I did it (late response) intentionally, to tease him!! But the next day it happened again...so he  became very angry and slapped me in my face. I wanted to explain but could not say anything and remained .........speechless. 

I began to skip each and every speech related program or activity...like freshers day, NCC etc. My mind was full of negative thoughts. I was searching for the magic trick that would cure my speech problem. I took various home made therapy and homeopathic treatment, ayurvedic treatment. but no improvement.  Mine being a village area, speech therapy is an alien concept. Then- I was completely disappointed and thought there is no way to get rid off it...

In my college life, I had to face problems for low attendance in every year. Principal sir permitted me for my good performance in sports field. I am good at various sports . but the difficult phase came when I had to speak something at the prize ceremony. I used to skip the prize ceremony. Some times it was not possible to skip. So after taking microphone on the stage I will try to say something but no word would come out of my mouth.......

One month earlier I discovered t-tisa blog in web. I read all the articles, books. saw videos; learned what is stuttering and how it can be controlled. the self help manual "ahj" deeply influenced me. When i knew there are many pws in the world, who have established themselves well, it began to change my attitude. The story of 2 brave women in tisa blog inspired me a lot and gave me the courage to accept that 'yes, I am a stutterer - so what?'

I sent a mail to sachin sir and he replied warmly. Then hemant sir and kushal sir spoke to me. They are very kind to me. Now I have the courage to open up myself for the first time in my life.

Everyday Heroes..

My name is Akshay and I am 20 years old.I was born on 26th December 1994 in Lucknow .
I have 2 siblings-a younger brother and an elder sister. I live in kashipur, uttrakhand.
.
PARENTS AND SIBLINGS
My father's name is Mr. P Kumar and he is 60  years old. My father is a medicine supplier and has a medicine shop at kashipur.
My mother is a house wife. I have two siblings a younger brother and an elder sister. My sister is doing bsc from dsb campus nainital and is really hardworking and inspiring. And my brother is in 7th standard .
My mother has been suffering from schizophrenia -a psychological disorder - due to which she is unable to contribute much to her household life. My father had started as a successful businessman but things turned around and  he had to deal with many misfortunes and had had a hard time in life financially. Still, my father never gave up and in spite of so much troubles, he brought us up well. I am more than grateful to God for a father like him . My father worked really hard to ensure good education for me and my sister and my younger brother.
It is from him that I have learned to never give up - come what may, in life .

EDUCATION
My primary school life began when I was 5years old in Kanpur where I studied KG. At age 6, I came to Lucknow and got admission into city Montessori school, station road branch. I studied for 9 years in cms where I switched in 4 branches of school and many locations because of my father's unsettled business.
I came to Kanpur again to complete my high school at my grandparents home. I passed with distinction - 88%marks . Again I had to move with my parents in kashipur uttrakhand in year 2011 . I got admission in CCA school kashipur .
I studied 2 years there and passed with 68% marks. I took a year drop to get admission in a government college to earn respect  and pride for my family.
I cleared jee in 2014 and admission in btech production engineering, GB pant engineering college,pauri gharwal,uttrakhand. I am currently in 1st year of btech .

STAMMERING
I started stammering when I was 6 years old and I consider change in environment and ups and downs in my family life as major contributors to it. I always felt inferior among others. There was no emotional help from any one. I was teased at school and many said that I did stammering for sympathy. Some made fun of me, some laughed at me - this shattered my inner strength .
I felt broken and helpless.
Initially my family too also laughed at my speaking but later they tried to understand me and thought that stammering would automatically be cured with growing up, so they never talked about it directly to me.
Since I focused more on studies I too didn’t pay much attention to it but now on reaching college I started to research on stammering and trying each day to control it.
I attended 1 month at Kanpur shg in December previous year.
I have many dreams . I want to be an inspirational speaker and want to inspire people. I want to help other stammerers and physically handicapped people so that the golden and fun time (childhood)  I lost in insults and criticism , I could relive in happiness of other individuals as me.
I have dreams and I am ready to work hard to accomplish them and I won't give up.

Hrithik Roshan-things I learnt from his life

  

  I have been watching Hrithik Roshan on youtube since the last fortnight. Initially I just saw his dance performances which were awesome. Then I searched for Hrithik Roshan interview to see how he manages his speech.Watching him speak has been  just like meditation for me. So much wisdom and reassurance from this man. The following are my observations.

      Some of the weaknesses Hrithik has faced in his life:-

(1). Hrithik had a severe stutter during his childhood.

(2). Hrithik had a severe condition of spinal cord(scoliosis-curved spinal cord) which was diagnosed when he was 21 years old-and doctors had warned him against becoming an actor as he would have to do action and dance scenes and he may end up being on a wheel-chair for the rest of his life.Hrithik does physiotherapy exercises for his spinal cord issue till this day.

(3). Hrithik has a bad condition of knee(left leg), which hurt a lot. During the shooting of "Guzaarish" movie( year 2010) , he was bed ridden and doctors had adviced him that the condition of his left knee was like that of a very old person and his knee would hardly last for one year or so.

On Sunday, meetings was held at the Bank of Son river, Near Barik ground, Danapur cantt, Patna, Bihar.
We was 3 people- Mohit, Suraj and Avinash.

Avinash is a new member and we welcome him wholeheartedly. Due to some reason we couldn't disclose about him much.

Our meeting started from 3pm just on the Bank of Son river. It was a awesome weather with a live view of nature's fresh & very cool air. As Avinash is a new one so we talked more with him about him, his work and his experience with stammering.

 
Suraj taught him some techniques which he learned from apna hath jagannath book.

Meanwhile we keep on taking long breath as it helps in circulation of air throughout our body.

As suraj is a bindas kind of guy so he keep on saying his amusing jokes and funny experience.

Even I taught Avinash a slow talking techniques, which I prefer while talking.

Today's meeting was totally for the Avinash. As he was very confused about the right solution.

Suraj taught him that you will never find the solution any where, the solution is inside you.

Just keep on exploring your speech and do practice regularly.

Finally we dispersed after taking some pictures. Due to Avinash request, we couldn't able to post the pictures. 

We are very sorry for it.

My story..

Hi everyone! Myself Prasannajit, an M.Tech student. I am writing this as a part of my acceptance towards stammering.

08-03-2015 PATNA BIHAR SHG REPORT

Welcome folks-

Today is the 5^th  meeting held in PATNA in the Eco park. Meeting held as per the schedule at 12 noon. We both met and entered park with the enthusiasm of learning something new.

1. We started with a formal talk. Suraj shared some amusing thoughts about his personal stammering experience. He always focus on communication. A good communication is a good choice for better speech. The biggest fault we do is we always used to give emphasis on how to talk rather than what to talk.

2. We read some pages of book from the e-book as we don't have any physical books.

3. We did 2 minutes calmness exercise.

Where we didn't said anything, just we stayed still.

Then we had masala dosa with a sip of coffee and ice-cream. While having meal, suraj shared some interesting short stories.

Finally, we clicked some pics and waved off each other.

Children and teens who stammer....

Friends, it gives me great pleasure to see a new initiative unfold- for children and teenagers who stammer; This is the most vulnerable group; peer pressure is very high and even the smallest indiscreet or chance comment by anyone, can drive young people to self-harm in so many ways (BBC news). Dhruv and FRIENDS are planning a two day convention in Mumbai. Here are details:

An ounce of practice...

Friends, many of us keep looking for that 'perfect' technique for the best part of our lives.. While some, like Karan (from Kanpur SHG), get hold of one idea and get down to work with it relentlessly- and guess what? - they make rapid progress! Karan had to make a presentation in his office on project management. So he did a little research, wrote down a script, read it out loud, recorded it- and listened to it quite a few times to understand where he needed to work more and what exactly- and voila!

Regional Meet at Goa - A Report

First of all, please accept my sincere apologies for posting this very late. I can give a hundreds of excuses, but I'll take the responsibility for this delay.

We concluded the 2-day regional meet in Goa, on 21-22 February, 2015. The venue was the International Center Goa, Dona Paula. A total of 12 participants, 6 from Bangalore, 5 from Goa and 1 from Mumbai attended the program. It was an informal and fun meeting.

We reached at 11:30 am at the venue and our meeting started on 12 noon, where we both started with the most common line in INDIA "Aur batao bhai kya chal raha hai life mein?".

Friends, I love to begin my day with some BBC! So, today, I heard about this trending youtube video about a child- born in girls body, but who feels like a boy. Please check this video, and also listen to him directly, towards the end of the video. I am sure this will help you understand what "acceptance" can mean to us and others - even to a little child. There is an amazing degree of diversity around us - but unfortunately, we tend to see this diversity as "right" and "wrong", "black" and "white", in mutually exclusive opposing terms...

The second beautiful thought BBC left me with, this morning, was a story about José Alberto "Pepe" Mujica Cordano - the humblest president, from Uruguay.
