Dr Akash Acharya is no more with us, alas! He was suffering from depression for some time. We were in touch with him since 2006 or so. We were discussing various ideas on self help and stammering in those early years. He was a Professor at Centre for Social Studies (CSS), VNSG University Campus, Surat, Gujarat and had researched health care delivery models from societal perspective.
In April 2008, Akash organised our first meeting in Mumbai (link), after which TISA as a community took off. Here are some press clips of that first meeting in Mumbai (link1, link 2). Akash also was very active in ISA (International Stammering Association) and represented our views in that forum.
My memories of Akash will always consist, among others, of his lively participation in Goa national Conference in 2016: He came with his mother, Mrs Abha Ben, and both of them immersed themselves in the conference, participating with the young group whole-heartedly, sharing a word of encouragement here and a word of counsel there with a young troubled soul. May he rest in peace...

Very heartbreaking news. We lost a dynamic pws. May his soul rest in peace.
It's heartening to see someone who was always there for fellow PWS, left us. May His soul rest in peace.
I first met akash in pune 2009 when Keith boss was in pune for conference.
I along with harish met him. Such a nice & humble person he was!
It's really a shocking news as we lost one of the best soul!
RIP Akash
I also had the first opportunity to meet Akash at Pune meet in 2009. Such a modest man he was. A real gentleman. May God give strength to his family at this difficult time. RIP Akash
I did not know him personally.. But have heard only kind words from fellow stammerers about him.. After all, we are all like beads tied together by thread of our stammering.. members of same biological family.. May his soul rest in peace
This is a very sad news to know about Dr Akash's Death, though i met him for the first time at Goa NC ,i don't know him personally but have heard a lot from fellow PWS about him,i have not interacted much with him but he appeared to be a very lively, knowledgeable and motivational person, still not able to believe that he is no more with us.This is a great loss to the stuttering community, may his soul rest in peace!!!
From Viren Gandhi (Mumbai):
Dr. Akash has also been patient at Rami Clinic. I too have attended Rami Clinic though I never knew Dr. Akash was patient at Rami Clinic. I received call from Dr Manish's sister Rekhaben informing about Dr. Akash was their patient. Dr. Akash has met her couple of months ago. Today I received email from Dr. Manish Rami which I am forwarding below. Please circulate it maximum among all TISA members etc. Dr. Manish Rami is settled in USA for about 19 years now.
I was myself in touch with Dr. Akash over email and WhatsApp on and off.
Please forward this message to all TISA members.
Regards,
Viren Gandhi
Received from Yadgar Irani:
In a moment of inspiration and courage We performed operation Chinchpokhli - buy a rly ticket, travel and speak to people on the rly stn in our modified speech....Years later again he (Akash) told me he had achieved fluency with valsavalsa technique and invited me to be part of Tisa meeting in mumbai... He seemed to be doing well..RIP Dear Akash!
MY deepest condolences . Why does it all ways happen to good and humble people . I think we should thinking about a separate program in TISA for depression Management.
It is with much sadness that I report the recent death of Dr Akash Acharya. Akash was a person who had a severe stammer. He was a founding member of the Indian Stammering Association. In his role of core group member of TISA, Akash had been active in trying to develop linkages with other such associations around the world in countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Mauritius, Germany, China, Denmark and Poland. Akash also served on the Advisory Board of the International Stuttering Association. Akash was a gifted academic with a great sense of humour and lived in Surat, India. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Blessings to his family and those who shared his life. - John Steggles
