Bike Servicing

Day 1

I went to the Bajaj service station for getting my bike repaired. I went to the person who makes entry of the vehicles. He asked me for what have you came for ? I was taking some time to speak meanwhile he asked For Service ? I said no sir for maintenance (stuttering) . Then he asked me for my bike's booklet ,so i gave him.
Now the game begins ! .

How many kms your bike had covered . I first try to speak in English ta ta ta ta ta............. gone , then tried to speak in hindi bab abb bb bb.......gone ...ufffffff. Now he realized my problem so he went to my bike and saw the kms reading ( its was 2200 kms ). Then he opened my booklet to write more details about myself and my bike ,now he knew that asking something from me will not be good. In my personal details my last name was not properly written so he asked me is it Batra ? i said no it is da da da ..... ufffff  lets try one more time then struggling in the mouth daaaaaaaaaaaaa....... datta ( oh thank god it came out :-) ) .I was very much aware that i was not speaking slow but speaking slow i dont know didnt work well n i failed to use it.Then i entered the workshop & had some talk with the mechanic and the supervisor with stuttering and skipping words .I was not at all relaxed at that time . I was thinking as if I was at the mercy of my Speech (on which i often loose control and stuttered and fail to converse)

Day 2

On first day the work was not done completely so i had to come one more time for getting the things done properly. So i went again the next day & same i went to the entry man (a new man was there -bad luck) he asked had you come for service ? i replied no for maintenance (stuttering) . Then asked me how many millege your bike has covered ... oh my god again .I pretended as if was i thinking and then i looked toward my bike ,he understood and he himself went to see the kms ( some 2230 kms ) . Now i was wondering he will surely ask my last name .... luckily he didnt asked me & he simply wrote my name Gorav . i went to the mechanics and told the self was not working and has some more talk ( n i was stuttering on every word ) .He started smiling at me .I felt bad and got angry. Then i was talking to him in a angry mood and now he stopped smiling .Then i had to talk to the supervisor and his assistant. It took me a lot of struggle to make them understand what i wanted to say and ask .

Its not end .... Its the beginning ... I will rise for sure :)

We all stammerers faces such type of situations all the time..
What I feel, try to speak slowly.. Its not easy, but its not difficult either..
Imagine yourself in a situation, and what will you speak in that situation.. Speak it very slowly and record that in the mobile.. Now listen to it, is it really sounding unusually slow...? Mostly, it will not! If it is not satisfactory, adjust your speed and record it again.. Find a good slow pace and practice.... And yes, never forget to take breath before each phrase (part of sentence).

Gorav Dutta !! It happens. We have to deal with these things in our daily life but we have to put our best efforts to control it. We are very lucky that we are associated with TISA in our early age we have the platform to improve and make our communication better and better under the guidance of Sachin Sir but we have a one life and to live a life with stammering is very difficult i know that so we have to put our best efforts to control it. Best of luck!!

Reminds me of a scene from "Unspeakable". By the end, Jon Paskievich is speaking fine- giving the message that if you continue, you rise above your difficulties..

@ Gaurav :

"Never fight a mechanic- if they can fix a screw ..they can also Sc..w your machines happiness " -Joydeep :)

You had other options to address the situation..

1)You could have noted the km reading in a paper and shared the same .
2)You could have used your finger to give the reading in a humourous way..
3)You could have impromptu created a puzzle out of the reading and read out the number to him -asking him to solve for himselves..that would have given you more time to tell him the number..

You ended up being a arrogant stutter instead of just being someone with a stutter..

I take it this way..start controlling the environment..instead of letting the environment control you.. become the master of the situation..change the entire ball game..but yes..not at the cost of demeaning the other..
