Bangalore SHG Meet 20th Dec 2015 : A Report

On a mild wintery Sunday morning the Bangalore SHG meet was held at Cubbon Park from 9am to 2pm. The meet started with a calming meditation session (attended by Dinesh, Jonali and Rajesh) of Vipasana. After the meditation session more people joined in amongst which Swarnalatha and Tia (6 year old daughter of Animesh) were the first timers.

Before everyone joined, Dinesh posed a question amongst all, that 'what/how do we do to prepare ourselves for any presentation or talk?'. The obvious response to the question were varied, amongst which some of them were, rehearsing the presentation, throat exercise, meditation, separating the thought of stammering from presentation and what not... As soon as almost everyone came, Dinesh took the lead and summarised the various responses as such, he said: Its important to work on the three things in a chronological order. Those are 1)Your understanding of the topic, 2)The content that you will talk about and finally 3) The delivery. As a stutterer what we often do is, we focus on the delivery more and leave out the important two aspects which forms the core of the presentation. More often or not we start from the 3rd one and put our all energy in delivery which constitutes only 1/3rd of the whole process. Thus diverting all our energy from what the talk actually requires.

Soon we moved onto introduction round followed by a very new activity proposed by Teja. In that activity we were given a situation where we were supposed to behave in a way that we will actually do in real life situations. The activity was a combination of acting as well impromptu speech .

Then finally Dinesh proposed a fun activity where we were supposed to sing a few lines or read few lines of poetry as per convenience. Even a stranger joined us in that activity and sang few lines of a Tamil song. Not to forget the energizing activity proposed by Teja where we were jumping and shouting at the same time while walking speedily. In totality it was a very fine Sunday afternoon, well invested to sow the seeds of stammering happily.
