This is the story about my first seminar in National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research. I came here in Ahmadabad in first week of august. Everything was new for me here, new city, new state. I belong to Nagpur .I used to stammer since my school life when was in seventh standard. Point to be noted still seventh standard I was very famous speaker in my school. But unfortunately what happened I didn’t understand I used to stammer after seventh. Since then I never spoke in front of any group or in classroom, although my stammering was not so much serious.
Days passed away. Many frustrating events came and gone during this period but I always neglected towards my stammering. Finally I came to Pune for my graduation and thought this is right time for improving my speech. I had also contacted to one of the speech therapist but he demanded much fees for that. So I denied that one.
Again I was busy in preparation for the PG entrance and finally got admission in National Institute of Pharmacy. Now here there is no option for oral presentation as they carry valuable marks in examination. As my name is Abhijeet, alphabetically I was the first person to deliver seminar in front of whole students all of them were new for me, in front of all staff members most of them were senior most in institute.
Now you can imagine my situation. One guy who never spoke in front of such huge people in new city, new college how can manage all things. I also met to one of the responsible faculty and discussed about my problem. I think they couldn’t understand my problem but one of most valuable suggestion they gave me. They told me that you should never think of any other person. You are having your own remote control to control yourself and why should other handle it.
Finally I decided to deliver seminar and the day come. I was having many decisions in my mind as that I will speak slowly, will speak by taking pause and so many.
At last I came on stage and was sweating a lot. And started to deliver seminar, ‘‘Good morning everyone. My name is Aaaabhijeet’’ and I paused, was feeling much shameful. Then what happened I said ‘‘I am having stammering problem and please cooperate with me throughout my seminar’’. And then once again I started my seminar. Now this time you can’t imagine I didn’t even take a single pause and stopped my seminar directly at THANK YOU.I was so much free because of my only commitment about stammering and my seminar was one the best seminar in that semester. No doubt I stammered twice or thrice but that was not noticeable.
Moral: Don’t try to hide that you are stammerer. Stammer openly. More you will hide your stammering more you will stammer.
Now I am working hard for my stammering. We have also opened TISA chapter in Ahmadabad. I hope will get huge response to it.
