Let the TISA SHGs bloom..

It’s good to see that there are many SHGs blooming.
They should not wither away during dry and hard times!
Here are the few basic observations which will help in smooth functioning of SHG.

Issues faced by SHG in order of their priority
1) The biggest challenge - Low attendance - This is the heart of the problem

Reason 1:- No documentation/report about the previous meeting.
This is very important to pull-in those who are waiting to attend.
Just posting time and venue will have very less takers.
Weekly report is a must - even if just 2 PWS attend.

Reason 2 :- No Meeting invite. Nobody is aware of the meeting except a select few.
Improvement - Weekly post in TISA, IndianPWS and mail the local database.
Weekly invite is a must.

Reason 3 :- The database of old and new members is not available. The data vanishes with coordinator.
Improvement - Maintain local database via google groups or yahoo groups.
Keep track of old and new members online and invite them.

Reason 4 :- No fixed Venue and Time
Time and Venue should not change very frequently.
Choose a Venue and Time and stick to it on Weekly or monthly basis.

 2) Meetings are dependent on one person

a) If problem 1 is addressed effectively. Many potential leaders are found who are willing to contribute to SHG.
b) Coordinator should slowly delegate activities to the group and keep minimum responsibilities with him. The onus is on the coordinator to find an substitute for him while he is Active.
c) Each SHG to declare a Captain and a Vice Captain!! -
SHOW Must go on!! - SHG should not be closed for the reason that someone is not available.

Regards
Dinesh.

SHG is the surest and fastest way for self-growth - Utilize it to the hilt !! :-)

Very nice post Dinesh ji..one suggestion from me is this that we should encourage fellow PWS to co-ordinate meetings one by one, it will improve leading skills of a PWS and also will confirm other co-ordinator in the absence of main co-ordinator.

Thanks Dinesh!
Good analysis. Another thing which works in my opinion, is- if the group organises a major event, that generates enthusiasm and attendance goes up. Delhi seem to be riding such a wave... the local leadership is definitely an important factor.. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
