First Kolkata SHG meet - a writeup

Apologizing for the delay in posting this write-up.

The FIRST TISA – Kolkata SHG was held on the 2nd Dec, 2012 at the panoramic lawns of Victoria Memorial at 3:30 pm – 5:00pm.

Total number of attendees were 4.
-        -  Mr Rahul Mukherjee
-        -  His Mother.
-       -   Mr X(*).
-        - And last but not the least, the (not so) humble coordinator, Kushal.

Initially the coordinator thought no one had turned up and so he was having a gala outing exploring Victoria, seeing lively and colourful people all around (including pretty girls---J ), and reading TISA self-help manual. (The chapter on Values and Beliefs is truly truly amazing and a must read for all. Great , great, awesome job Sachin).
Later on, I was joined (unfortuanately…hahaha) by Rahul, his mother and Mr X.

A very brief introduction of the participants:
-         - Mr X is a recovered stammerer and runs a coaching center.Truly epitomizes the pinnacle of achievement for any PWS (person with stammering).
-          - Rahul is in his 3 year of engineering. A shy and extremely pleasant personality.
-          - His Mother. Appearances can be very deceptive. Little did the simple mannerism betray that she is a  Doctor of Neurology at one of Kolkata’s top hospital.
-         -  Kushal. No introductions required. (!)

Proceeding began by me introducing the role of TISA and sharing the TISA self help manual and copy of Samvad which I had received at Coorg (The All India Stammering Meet). Talks revolved mainly around stammering, whether it is curable, if so how etc. Everyone also shared a few experiences. Mr X was particularly influential and motivating with his ‘go-get’ approach on overcoming stammering. Rahul was more of a recipient, gathering knowledge (I presume).

The meet saw, a light-hearted Debate between the coordinator and Mr X on the way to ‘cure’ stammering. The coordinator tried his best to advocate TISA’s approach of ‘there are multiple ways to truth. One is free to choose his/her path’, while Mr X strongly advocated the path he had taken, which of course has done wonders for him.

The meet concluded with sharing a joke by each of the participants. Mr X (a professional comedian, he has participated in the famous Bengali comedy show) was simply fantastic. For a shy boy like Rahul to have shared a nice joke, made the coordinator proud to have organized the meet.

Looking forward to the next SHG meet.
Best Wishes to all,
Kushal  (8981876099)

* - For personal reasons I have kept Mr X's identity unknown.

Hats off kushal for conducting 1st SHG meeting in Kolkatta. It may be a small beginning but will grow larger in due course of time. It is also happy that a PWS mother who herself is a doctor also participated in the meeting. Really wonderful. All the best to Kushal and others.
