‘Don’t seek, search or demand – just RELAX. If you relax. it comes. If you relax, it is there &you start vibrating with it.’
This is what comes in my mind instantly when I was in mid way, reading the mini biography of Russ Hicks about his journey of life with STUTTERING.
Honestly, I like the way he expressed his feeling in such an easy way (with frequent humor punches J) making me remind incidents from my own life which are quite as similar as his experiences.
It seems he enjoyed his journey from a severe stutter (from his point of view only, don’t blame me J ) to an highly accomplished public speaker so intense that even got bald earlier than normal (Just a joke J)
As in case of Mr.Russ, speech therapies didn’t work for me either (or there impact got disappeared dramatically when it came to perform in so called outer world)
Also my folks were & are very (not totally though) supportive of me but still its my inner bad attitude towards my stuttering that always haunted me (I am on the path of acceptance)
‘ Before I do ANYTHING else in the world, I’ve got to CURE my stuttering’ this is my line too……Now I would also try to change my wish list upside down assuring last place for fluent speaking (atleast second last for sure J)
‘Harder I fought for stuttering cure, the deeper the hole I was digging for myself’ was a deemed fit line for my life too till few months back. As stuttering (fear actually) mainly occupied in mind than mouth, too much attention to it would prove a bad decision by any means.
‘A good therapist will help his/her client attack his whole life rather than just the stuttering’ Exactly!!!……more chronic the fear of stuttering, longer the list of abnormal habbits (such as loss of listening capabilities, cut off from social life) which every PWS develop gradually. Hence, a therapy must focus on someone’s life as a whole rather than mere stuttering. As it is my personal experience that becoming a better listener automatically reduces your fear of stuttering & makes you a good communicator.
After reading this mini biography, I can find that the author have accepted himself as a whole how he is. He has widened his acceptance towards his physical appearance too along with stuttering.
He surely enjoys a place in the elite group of stutterers all around the world, for whom stuttering have been a path finder in their lives….. J
