The blog on TABLE TOPICS posted by my mentor Dr. Sachin is thought provoking and needs some self introspection. The goal to becoming a banyan tree is through imparting confidence only. It reminds me of Mahabharta.
In Mahabharta, Duryodhan, the eldest Kaurava, is the villian. His envy results in a great war where millions are killed. He cannot bear the success of his cousins, the Pandavas. He wants them to be destroyed. He refuses to part with even 5 villages for the sake of peace. He destroys his own peace of mind so as to destroy his enemies. Such hatred! Where did it come from ?
Please ponder: What creates a Duryodhana ? A man so bitter and angry, who refused to focus on his own good fortune, but always comparing himself with his cousins and feeling miserable.
What creates this personality ? Duryodhana's father, Dhritarashtra is blind. His mother, Gandhari, is blindfolded. The father cannot see the son. The mother refuses to see her son (whatever her reason). So a son grows up unseen by his parents. No one notices the child, growing up full of rage. No one corrects him. No one notices the child's growing sense of inadequacy. The child succumbs to flattery. The result is disastrous.
If we look around, we can see a lot of Duryodhanas among us. We all have felt negleted, unappreciated, unacknowledged at some point of our lives. As student we study hard and get good grades, as professions we work hard and get paid, but that is not enough? We yearn to be seen, to be recognised and be appreciated by our management, our peers & parents. When that does not happen, we begin to develop a sense of inadequacy, which gnaws at our confidence. This loss of confidence, this accomulated rage can force us to take wrong decisions.
This is where Toastmaster makes a huge difference. Respect for the individual is a key value for the organisation. The greatest benefit of Toastmasters lies not only in acquiring communication or leadership skills but in gaining confidence. This is the difference between a Duryodhana and a Yudhistira. Duryodhana had everything but due to lack of confidence went the wrong way. Yudhistira even during his most trying times was capable of making the right decisions because he had the confidence in himself.
IMPART CONFIDENCE TO EACH OTHER SO THAT WE BECOME A BANYAN TREE.

It would relly mean a lot to me !!!
Great! Deep insight and parallel from scriptures. Yes, we all need appreciation- as much as we need Oxygen! That is what TISA is attempting in its own little way..
Jasbirji, I am impressed by your understanding of scripture and its application in the betterment of our lives.
Yes sir, you are absolutely correct! How one feels about himself/herself is the most important thing as we spend most of our time with our own self!Another great sharing post by you sir.. and feeling confident can turn your world around!
Jabir sir,
A very accurate explanation with apt practical example, such wisdom comes only after deep insight and experience. A person lives in the duel identity of Duryodhanas and Yudhistira until he know his true identity and to know his/her true identity one need the wisdom of a guru.
